The Hague

We’ll be laying a heat pipeline underground in The Hague from 2023 to 2025. We’ll be distributing heat from the port of Rotterdam via this pipeline. We’ll soon be able to use this heat (in the form of hot water) to warm up homes and businesses in South Holland. This will result in less CO2 being released into the air. And that’s obviously much better for nature.

The pipeline will run from Guntersteinweg up to the De Constant Rebecqueplein

The pipeline will be buried in some places. And in other places we’ll drill the pipeline under the street. Contractor Heijmans will be carrying out the WarmtelinQ work.

Residents will be provided with more information as soon as work is about to start in their area.

Contractor Heijmans will always inform residents exactly where and when we’ll be working. They’ll receive a letter with these details. Everyone also has the option of following the activities via the BouwApp. This is also possible via the computer.

Construction activities will, unfortunately, result in various nuisances. However, we try to prevent or minimise these as much as possible.

We’ll do this by creating temporary parking spaces. And by cordoning off the work area with fences. That’s for the safety of both residents and business owners. But also by, for example, setting up alternative routes. These will be indicated with yellow signs in the street. We’ll make sure homes and shops remain accessible at all times.

Green

In some places there’s simply not enough space for the work to be carried out. So this is where we have no choice but to remove some trees and shrubs. We’ll replant these trees and shrubs once the work is done. Some of the greenery may make a return in a different place. That’s simply to ensure trees aren’t planted on top of the pipeline. You’ll soon be able to find the plans for the replanting of trees and shrubs in your neighbourhood here.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ll soon be able to use the existing heat from the port of Rotterdam to warm up homes. This means certain homes and businesses will no longer need gas in the near future. That’s both sustainable and better for nature.

Heijmans has been commissioned by WarmtelinQ to lay the pipeline. Heijmans may, at times, hire other contractors to help with the work. You’ll therefore be able to see several different names at the construction site.

Heijmans generally works from 06:00 to 18:00 hours. We’ll occasionally work nights and weekends too. We’ll always provide information regarding this in advance.

The entire pipeline will be completed in 2025. Although we’ll be working in phases. This means we won’t be working near you all the time. The work map will show you during which phase we’ll currently be working in your area.

The municipality of The Hague will determine which districts are going to be connected. And which districts will not. It’s therefore best to submit this question to the municipality. Via www.denhaag.nl or 14070.

Yes. Shops and homes will always remain accessible on foot. Diversions are going to be necessary for cars and cyclists.

Damage

It goes without saying we do our utmost to prevent damage. However, there is still a chance you could suffer damage as a result of the project. For example, damage to your house or car (construction damage). Any reduction in the value of your house, or a loss of turnover (compensation for loss) will also be regarded as damage. You may be entitled to compensation.

Construction damage: if you suffer damage as a result of the work

Examples include: cracks in the wall due to vibrations. Or a garden which has suffered subsidence as a result of digging activities. Or perhaps your car’s wing mirror has been knocked off by a construction truck.

Have you suffered any form of construction damage? Then call or text us on 06-3948 9911 or send an email to [email protected]. We would always prefer to see photographs of any possible damage. We will subsequently look for a satisfactory solution together with you.

Compensation for loss: invisible damage caused by the project

Examples include: a reduction in the value of your home or you’re earning less because of poor access to your shop.

The municipality will deal with any compensation for loss. You can submit a request for compensation to the municipality. Do you need help with completing the form? Then send an email to [email protected] or call 06-5004 1475. You can visit the municipality's Business Owners Portal. Please call 06-5004 1475 for an appointment.
